New Mercedes Benz Vito minibuses

E-mail Print PDF

Mercedes Benz VITOs purchased

On the 8th of June we picked up the two brand new minibuses from the Mercedes Benz store in Chodov.  Pictures are shown on the Flicrk. I already wrote about the specification however there was a slight change. The cars do not have the cruise control, it will be added later on, also we kept the regular manual air conditioning, because the automatic was ridiculously expensive.

Minibus specification:

Engine: 2.2 CDi
Color: white
Seats: leathered (8 passengers + 1 driver)
Extras: radio with MP3, WMA etc., black tinted windows

Prague Taxi & Transfers on Flickr

Prague Taxi & Transfers pictures are now available on Flickr. Most of the pictures are taken by a mobile phone camera, do not expect professional art pieces. The pictures report some of our transfers. There is a section devoted to our vehicles, special events, upgrades as well as weddings. I lack time to add reports to the blog quickly so you can use the Flickr for a quick reference. I hope you will also enjoy the Flickr widget by roytanck.com which will soon be available on all my websites:

Roy Tanck's Flickr Widget requires Flash Player 9 or better.

Prague - the cheapest bargain deal in Europe

E-mail Print PDF

If you are looking for a bargain European city break, head for the Czech capital of Prague, says a new survey by the Post Office, which claims that the stunning city offers the best value short breaks this year, with Lisbon and Budapest following close behind...

Despite the weak pound, Prague was by far the cheapest of 15 city break destinations surveyed - with prices well down on 2009.

At £106.17, the 11 typical city break items monitored - including drinks, meals, accommodation, sightseeing and transport - cost almost two-thirds less in Prague than New York, the most expensive city surveyed (£307.96).

Origin of "TAXI"

Taxi origins

The word "taxi" is like a word "robot". Anywhere you go, the meaning is the same. Everybody knows it and understands it in the same way. Taxi is usually a yellow car with the typical black and white stripes and "taxi" light on the roof. Easily recognized, easily spotted.

But why is it called "taxi"?

I searched the internet etymology dictionaries and I found following:

The basic root of the word "taxi" is obviously "tax" - to charge. German language dates the origin of the "Taxameter" back to 1890. Later in 1894 comes the English form "taxameter", which was used in horse-drawn cabs. In 1898 we find new form: "Taximeter" that describes device as "automatic meter to record the distance and fare". Taxi-metered cab is first attested in 1907 and the noun is shortened to "taxi".

As a verb "to taxi" is recorded since 1911. It also comes from earlier noun use as slang for "aircraft".
